VIENNA - The United Nations nuclear watchdog is training Chinese security personnel to respond to any radiological attack during the Olympic Games in Beijing in August, officials said on Friday.

A radiological attack is one involving a release of radioactivity -- for example through a "dirty bomb" in which radioactive material is packed around conventional explosives and scattered when the device goes off.

The Benny Morris op-ed in the NYT last Friday should provide convincing evidence that Israel really really really wants an attack against Iran sooner rather than later.  Morris is close to the Israeli government and his case that Iran must be bombed soon and with maximum conventional weaponry to avoid using nukes later was clearly intended to push the United States to do the attacking.

Earlier this year I decided to see if it was possible to create an urban legend from scratch. To manufacture a completely a bogus story, a hoax, plucked straight from the catacombs of my mind, and pass it off as if it were fact. I decided to set-up a memes.org alter-ego, and under this temporary guise unleashed this unto the world.

Wow.  I love it when an article like this pops up.  As reported in today's Haaretz, Libyan leader Muammar Gadhafi said on Wednesday that U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama's expressed support for Israel "stems from his fear that the Mossad would assassinate him, just as it did President John F. Kennedy". 

(And there was I thinking Gadhafi was secretly wearing a Mission Impossible mask.)

Debkafile's Washington sources report that president George W. Bush is closer than ever before to ordering a limited missile-air bombardment of the IRGC-al Qods Brigade’s installations in Iran. Iran is geared up for counteraction.

The significant expansion in America's weather warfare arsenal, which is a priority of the Department of Defense is not a matter for debate or discussion. While, environmentalists blame the Bush administration for not having signed the Kyoto protocol, the issue of "weather warfare", namely the manipulation of weather patterns for military use is never mentioned.

It's time I came clean. This story is going to be hard to believe. I mean, I would be pretty sceptical if someone told me what I'm about to tell you. This year I actually spoke to a bird. And yes, that's the feathered variety. It's a true story. I might as well just tell it and you can make your own mind up.

As far as my uber-trendy-international-blogging-chick friend is concerned, memes are internet fads.  The term, meme, is rapidly spreading through internet social networks to describe all that which is propagated electronically, and it looks like the revised definition may become pandemic.

A humanitarian crisis is underway as the Gaza Strip's only power plant began to shut down on Sunday, and the tiny coastal territory entered its third full day without shipments of vital food and fuel supplies due to Israel's punitive sanctions.

Assuming that Barack Obama wins the 2008 Presidential Election (and I believe he will) then you can guarantee that after pledging to re-engage the 'war on terror' back to it's original mission (quite possibly in the wake of some new terrorist attack) the above catchphrase will drip from newspaper headlines and media outlets the world over.

There are two principle chords in music.  Major and Minor.  Major chords are traditionally associated with happiness, joy and have a bright optimistic tonality about them.  Minor chords on the other hand have a darker feel, conveying a sense of sadness, grief, tragedy or other manifestations of sombriety.

The question is, what is it exactly within these chords that is responsible for such a dichotomy of emotions?  What makes 'sad' music so sad?
